2009 MLB Draft – Bad News for SOT?
God, the NL really sucks., only three AL teams drafting in the top 10 this year. I think it’s safe to say Stephen Strasburg‘s name will not be called during the 2010 SOT draft.

Well last year only 4 AL teams picked in the top 10, #1 Tim Beckahm,#3 Eric Hosmer,#4 Brian Matusz,#8 Gordon Beckham. Justin Smoak was #11 and I am guessing he is the first prospect taken in the 2009 SOT draft.
True. But at least those were pretty high picks. Bigtime bummer. I agree Chris. We dont even really get a run of AL teams until the teens.
Strasburg to the Mariners?
I don’t see how Strasburg gets past the Nats at #1.
How did Weiters fall to #5, PECOTA says he is a sure fire HOF’er. How did Porcello fall to #27? It happens every year.
I don’t think that will happen again. Revenue sharing, a recent turnover in GM’s around the league, and the bad economy will have all teams placing a bigger emphasis on the draft. Last year the Pirates took Alverez where in years past they would have taken a lesser player that they could have signed for far less money. Look at all the mid level type A free agents who can’t get a job because teams don’t wont to forfeit their 1st round pick.
