I get the feeling the Royals’ pitchers are a lot like the Twins’ pitchers. Both teams seem to have an abundance of so called “#3 starters with a the chance to become a little bit more than a #3″ or “#5 starters / swingmen.” For some reason, though, I think I like the Royals pitchers better.

Also, I don’t know much at all about Melville but I love his name. Say it with me. TIM MELVILLE. Say it a few more times out loud to yourself. Sound out each syllable, just let it soak in. Sounds like a ball player huh? I know. I think so too.

Hmmm…TRC leaning towards Melville in Rd 2 or 3? Is that what I’m hearing. Not if Rich gets involved, we all know how he feels about pitching prospects.

Hahaha….he really does depise those mound dwellers.

Kila is the systems biggest question mark. After spending 45 minutes last night reviewing the career of Kila, i’ve nearly written him off. I can’t get overly excited about a 24 year old tearing up High-A and AA, while playing in hitter friedly environments. Not to mention the cluster KC has built up at the DH/1b slot. I know 101 is hoping he slids, as he fits into the perfect DH three outcome player he has come to covet(see cust, cruz).

I was on the Kila bandwagon about 2 years ago and wrote him off then. Havent followed him much since then. Kind of fell off the map for me. I will have my eye on Blake Wood though. He was ranked 57th on last years list for 101Wins. Just one notch ahead of WTNY draftee Jose Martinez.

“With my 2nd round selection, I choose Kila Ka’aihue.”

    - just a hunch Marc.

I don’t dislike him as much as DMB, but the fact that he’s on KC is scary, given their current roster make-up. Ideally, he’s the everyday 1B/DH getting 500 AB’s, but I’m not sure that can happen.

Tough to ignore the impressive BB/K rate, combined with solid ISOPS and low BABIP.

College draftee, correct, which somewhat explains the age issue.

Kila has been playing in the minor since the young age of 18. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/K/Kila-Kaaihue.shtml . These types of prospects scare the hell out of me. Same reason i have problems with Carlos Santana being rated as highly as he is. This is what i love about prospecting, I’m learning something new every year.

I was looking at firstinning, and they didn’t have the first few years. For some reason, they havn’t been too aggressive with Kila. I’m not sure how scouts feel about Kila’s swing, but if they like it, I’ll probably move him up my list. His numbers in the high minors look like Youk.

The scouting reports on Santana’s swing are strong. He’ll be interesting to follow this year, especially in a pitchers league. I’m fairly confident the defensive ability is there for him to move quickly.
