I’s slide in Anthony Slama and push off Manship.

Ugly system, although I’m not a Revere guy, so maybe if I was it would look a little better. Gutierrez? Wasn’t a fan of the pick at the time and still not a fan today. To me, this guy has to be considered a top 11 guy in a weak system:

AGE – 2/24/88 (OF) – Midwest League, former 1st rd pick

    220 AB, 14 HR, 881 OPS, 18 BB%, 28.7 K%, .257 ISOP

By comparison, the guy below is considered a top 25 prospect in all of baseball. I’m not comparing the two, because it’s obvious Moustakas is the better prospect. But it looks like an oversight to not find a spot in a top 11 Twins list when you look at the two numbers. Moustakas is also seven months younger, which works in his favor.

    AGE – 9/11/88 (3B/OF) – Midwest League, former 1st rd pick

    496 AB, 22 HR, 805 OPS, 7.8 K%, 15.7 K%, .196 ISOP

We’re talking about some serious contact concerns with Parmelee. Repeated MWL in 2008 got hurt, and showed no signs of increased contact rate. Even so, i do agree he should be listed somewhere on this list, how about a “just missed”?

  4. WTNY says:

He’s listed as a sleeper, but still, in a list of 11, where anyone listed after #2 is filled with questions, it looks like a huge oversight to me.

Yup, contact issues are a problem with him (huge), hence the low average, but there are plenty of minor league prospects with contact issues, and his high BB% at least helps the OBP. And while he repeated the league, he was still only 7 months older than Moustakas and still young for the league at 20, so I don’t see that as a concern. Angel Morales, who I like, worse than Parmelee though, and has been over 30% both years as a professional. That again is the issue I’m having with KG. Where’s the consistency?

  5. WTNY says:

that should read, Angel Morales has a worse K% than CParm.

  6. 101Wins says:

Sounds like you are only accounting for sheer numbers. KG talks to plenty of scouts it seems. I’m assuming the scouting reports is the difference maker here.

  7. WTNY says:

But here’s my issue with that statement. Parmelee was a 1st round pick, so at some point, the scouting community had to like him. Then he backs up that 1st rd selection with a fantastic debut (2006), followed by an ok season in the MWL (2007), then repeated the league last year and pre-injury was on his way to a fairly strong season (2008). The contact issues are well documented, but how often is it that scouts don’t like a 20-year-old former 1st rd pick with an 880 OPS in the MWL? And I’m not arguing that he should be #1 in the system, I’m just saying it looks like a big oversight to keep him out of a very weak top 11.
