Sept. Injuries
Just wanted to throw this out there. I am sure every owner has issues with the September injury/reserve rule. I am wondering how owners would feel if each team has 1 injured reserve spot for September. I’m just throwing this out there. Thoughts?
Something needs to change here. I’m a little hesitant to put a number on how many players may qualify to be place on a i/r list.
I’m in favor of more flexibility for teams down in the last month. Even if it’s a young arm being shut down due an innings limit.
Did Tillman propose something like this at the end of year?
Would you be apposed to increasing the number?
I would not be against increasing the number. I just started at 1 to get a a discussion going
I agree something should be done here. Maybe we just let SOT owners reserve any “injured” or “shutdown” player in September? Once the player(s) in question are reserved they are frozen and can not be involved in a transaction of any kind until the offseason.
I’m with you Ag. once you choose to reserve that player they are frozen for the rest of the year.
I thought reserving a player in September and losing that player for the remainder of the season was already in place? Or am I thinking of the commish descretion rule?
We had Young last year get hurt in the beginning of September and our three options were:
1. Nuke him
2. reserve him with the blessing of the commish and lose him for the rest of the year, even though it was reported he would return for at least the last week of the season
3. keep him on our roster until he returned from his injury
So the new proposal would allow us to reserve him with out commish approval but we’d lose his service for the remainder of the season even if he came back from his injury?
I think that is the direction this proposal is heading. Do we allow unlimited amount of reserves for injuries or are we going to have a 2 or 3 limit IR?
