Winter Meetings Proposal #8 Reserving Players after Deadline Based on New Information.
Reserving a Player who may be placed on the DL or sent to minors prior to the start of the Game.
One of the more controversial items that come up during the year. Example: Wednesday at 6:30PM we learn Laporta was sent down to AAA. This is past the 2:00 PM deadline so WTNY wasn’t allowed to reserve Laporta. I propose we change to give teams some flexibility. Let me lay out a scenario which i think we could use
Owner submits his plays with a tentative move based on a player going on the DL or being sent to the minors prior the start of that days games. It takes a little more work for each owner when submitting plays, but alleviates teams going a whole week without a active player in their lineup. Move may look like this:
Reserve Wood (if placed on DL) Add X
Reserve Davis (if sent to minors) Add X
I’m 100% against using Rotoworld or any other source as the measuring stick.
Thoughts?
What if there were no reports of LaPorta being sent down prior to submitting moves? So obviously I wouldn’t put it in my weekly transaction email, but would I get relief in this case?
I would say Maybe?
We may not find “new information” out until 6:30PM that a player was sent down. The owner will have to send in a subsequent move prior the start of the games. One slight problem being if you are 1st on the priority list. This may conflict with another teams moves.
Possible work around:
Be very specific with your weekly moves. If you ask to reserve Laporta every week, there may be the one week where the extra homework done writing the detailed email prior would really pay off.
So far, I don’t see a reason why you couldn’t get relief.
I don’t think we should create a system that rewards owners for writing “reserve player x” every week in hopes of making an alternative move.
So basically we would submit protection every week in case a any player on our roster was injured or sent to the farm?
Ag,
I’m trying to create a rule to make sure we don’t have teams missing out on a weeks worth of stats, because the webmaster at Rotoworld had a late lunch and didn’t post Laporta was getting sent down till 2:30PM.
How about some ideas to fix this?
“So basically we would submit protection every week in case a any player on our roster was injured or sent to the farm?”
Would you really do that? It’s clear to me that Mike’s suggesting owners research news daily, and if they think a move is imminent, send it in. But submitting protection every week sounds crazy to me.
I think that if there are reports or rumors out there that a player may be sent down or placed on the DL then a move may be allowed after the deadline if it is submitted earlier in the day prior to the trans deadline. I just don’t want us to create a rule with such a large loophole.
what’s the loophole?
the loophole would be the ability to “reserve player x” every week in hopes of making an alternative move.
Would you send in a move every week to “reserve player X” in the hopes of making an alternative move?
I’m just having a hard time believing that some owner would do this without actually reading about it, or hearing about it prior to our transaction date.
I would feel more comfortable with this proposal if we closed that loophole. There could be an instance when an owner has a frozen or benched player he would like to keep; but hasn’t been able to reserve.
Ag,
Please provide an example of your lost post?
No idea what that means.
