Proposal #4: The JM Is Killing My DraftDay Buzz Rule
I didn’t think it would come to this, but I’m afraid it has. JM killed the Draft Day buzz with his performance last year, just flat out murdered it. I think we need to initiate a clock on each pick, and I propose we start it at 3 minutes in Rd’s 1-2, then 5 minutes for the remainder of the draft. If you don’t have your pick in, just like in the NFL, you “pass.”
I agree, but not sure 5 minutes for the whole draft works. The one thing I like about the later rounds is the time we have to sort out things. Sometimes people are working on draft day trades which takes up time. How about 5 minutes a pick for the 1st 3 rounds? The 25 minutes to draft a player in the first 2 or 3 rounds is a bit much, though
Could be right Marc, I came up with 5 min’s because it felt long enough, but maybe it isn’t. Although maybe we allow for one extension during the draft, an extra 5min’s or whatever the time is, to allow teams to work out trades.
I’m in favor of this. Unfortunately it shouldnt be necesarry but 2-3 times per draft AG zaps your will to live.
Any thoughts on a good amount of time? I don’t want to turn this into speed drafting either, since this is in fact the biggest day of the year for almost all of us (“Green Jacket Guy after the 3rd round” excluded). But some type of limit is needed now, and maybe add that extension for teams to work out trades, etc. One extension each team? Two? Don’t know the answer.
I think most would be in favor of moving the rounds along. we could try and do something where after round 4 you have a 10 minute limit? This wouldn’t impact the draft all that much since not everyone is spending a ton of time working on trades, but if they are then they need to get it done within 10 minutes. I know myself and some others usually are ready to draft in most rounds. I definitely think we need to apply some sort of time limit one way or another.

10 seems a bit long for the early rounds since the first 10-15 players are usually universally recognized. Maybe 5 for the first two rounds and 10 after? I like the one ext per team though, that makes sense.
I don’t really care if there is a time limit on picks. It takes owners days to finalize trades now you want to limit trade talks on draft day to to 5-10Mins?? I agree some owners take while, I say suck it up.
For the most part, it’s one owner. JM last year was horrific Rich, that’s the only reason I brought this up. He was a total buzzkill, round after round after round. Like you, I could stay all day and drink and draft, but at some point AG needs to call out a damn name.
I think five minutes per pick for the whole draft is ample. No need to get fancy. If you are over this, what is the penalty, skip pick and you pick next pick, or do you lose the pick altogether?

Way to create a loop hole. JM is a the King of the extension. Why should all of us be punished with a time limit because of one owner?
I agree Richie, I’d prefer no time limit. But you do recall JM’s exploits last year, right? 3 owners fell asleep, 3 owners went home, and 1 owner asked how to access your roof so he could jump head first.
Yeah but come on, passing a rule just for that seems a tad silly. At least give JM a chance to redeem himself.

Nice. Looks like I’ve missed a few proposals. Yes, I did take too long on some of my picks last year but I was hardly the only one. PQ took his sweet time on more then one occasion.
WTNY, you should probably take a look at the NFL draft rule you refer to as teams who go over their time limit do not lose picks. If a team does not make a decision within its allotted time, the team still can submit its selection at any time after its time is up, but the next team can pick before it, thus possibly stealing a player the later team may have been eyeing.

I’m not in favor of a time limit. I’d prefer to come up with a penalty for going over the limit. Like someone mentioned, the other 7 teams should not be penalized.
