2012 Draft Position Eligibility

Current Rule: 20 games at a position in the prior (including farm). If a player didn’t play 20 games at a position, then the position he played them most is used. No more 10% or 20%. That’s history Pal!

We’ll have some players changing positions this year (Morneau DH) that won’t accumulate 2 games by draft day. I believe these types should be afforded the FLEX-ability to be placed at new position.

Also, does anyone know where to find games played at DH in the minors? Baseballreference.com shows games played at all positions but DH. WE can simply look at games played then subtract out the difference to find how many were at DH. I think we all need to get on the same page with this.

PROPOSAL #1: FUCK WINS
- Innings Pitched will replace wins, all voted in favor. (EE and DMB vote not needed.)

PROPOSAL #2: PLAYER OPTIONS, TWO TOO MANY.
- Player options reduced from 3 per player to 2.

PROPOSAL #3: PLAYERS ON 60 DAY DL
- Rule change denied, 5 votes to 1.

PROPOSAL #4: THE JM IS KILLING MY DRAFTDAY BUZZ RULE
- Rule change denied, but we’re allowed to beat him with a bag of soap.

PROPOSAL #5: IF HE’S ON THE FARM HE’S ON THE FARM/BARTOLO COLON RULE
- Votes were 3 – 3 on this, WTNY, Si7, and JM in favor, no need to ask EE or DMB. Sticking point is how MLB teams handle DL designation on opening day. We want to take another look at this once we know the DL rule (do they get designated as MLB or Minor league free agents – Kalish, Revere types).

PROPOSAL #6 25 MAN ROSTER
- Rule change denied. 4 – 2, WTNY and TUSA in favor

PROPOSAL #7 24 MAN ROSTER, change 10th pitcher spot to flex position.

PROPOSAL #10 MULTIPLE NUKES TO ACTIVATE FARM/RESERVE LIST
- Passed, although we’re limiting the “max” to two nukes per week. Only players eligible are those on the roster after the draft, pre-spice draft. On the first transaction sheet, all those on the draft day roster will be noted by Andy.

PROPOSAL #11 OBP vs AVG
- OBP voted in, AVG voted out.

PROPOSAL #12 Draft Lottery
- Proposal declined.

Proposal # 9 Multiple Nukes to activate farm/reserve list

Owners should be allowed multiple nukes ONLY to activate players they own at the end of the draft either reserved or on the farm. Example the draft ends and Flowers is on TRC reserve list and Joe Benson is on our farm……….Benson gets called up both players start playing well so we want to activate them . Under the current rule I’d need an injury, trade or the one nuke. This would allow more control and flexibility of our farm and reserve list. Seeing how we already own those two players we don’t effect priority or any other team. Would just mean two more players hit the waiver wire

Again I’d like this to only cover players owned at the end of the draft, it wouldn’t be for players picked up and reserved during the season.

Thoughts?

2011 WM Proposal #8 Players Lost to NL Compensation

To follow along with MLB:

No draft pick compensation will be allowed to any SOT team for a player lost to NL via FA or Traded to NL unless the player was

1. On your keeper List entering the season

2. Drafted onto your 24 (20 farm) roster.

This would eliminate teams from picking up players who may qualify late in the year just to get a draft pick the following year.

This would take effect in 2013.

MLB and MiLB Players lost to NL

WAR (Offense) has replaced VORP

o Compensation rewarded at end of 2^nd rd

§ Higher the WAR, higher the pick if multiple guys qualify

§ Milb, the higher the rank the better the pick

o Top 3 at each IF position and DH

o Top 10 OF

o Top 20 SP

o Top 5 RP

Milb, we will use top 100 from the following:

o Keith Law

o Sickles

o BA

o BP

Name just has to appear on one of these lists
Top 100 is mix of AL and NL
Footnote: Once the new season begins, we will use the upcoming year’s list. For instance, Rizzo and Fuentes would be applied to 2011 lists but they are grandfathered into the voting comp rule of 2010.

Proposal #7 Keeper Eligibility

MLB new rule doesn’t allow FA compensation to the team losing a player to FA the following year if that team acquired the player during the season. For example, the Sox add Roy Oswalt in July, he then leaves for FA. The sox wouldn’t be able to get compensation.

I’d like to apply this to SOT. For example, Mike Carp, was picked via FA in 2011. My rule, which would be imposed in 2013, wouldn’t allow DMB to keep Carp on this roster, making him a FA in next years draft.

I haven’t thought this out at all, but wanted to get it down on paper for all to discuss.

Proposal #6 25 Man Roster

MLB teams have the choice between how many pitchers or position players they want on their MLB active roster. For instance, there may be times when the Rays carry 11 pitchers and the Sox carry 10, totally a strategy for what suites their needs at the time.

I propose we move to a 25 man roster adding a position for U/P. GM preference on whether to carry a 2nd U spot or a 11th P.

Astros are coming, we have 20 man minor leagues and I doubt we will have SOT expansion. No better time than now to move to a 25 man roster!
